Minister for Sport visits dementia care home, Vida Grange, in Harrogate

Whilst the UCI Professional Championships took place in Harrogate, Vida Healthcare, a specialist dementia care provider offering the highest level of dementia care, participated in Motitech’s Road Worlds for Seniors.

Road Worlds for Seniors is a worldwide competition which ran alongside the International professional cycling race, UCI’s, and enabled elderly and those living with dementia to participate and become dedicated athletes.

Over 4,300 older people from 7 countries, 1,000 from UK alone, signed up and all together they cycled over 108,000 km in just 25 days!

We officially kicked the event off on 3rd September where we hosted Stray FM, Heart FM, Yorkshire 2019, families and friends. The championship then ran throughout the whole of September and it was a great success. Our residents across both homes, Vida Hall in Starbeck and Vida Grange in Pannal loved every minute!

A special thank you to Sports England and British Cycling, who funded Vida Healthcare with two specialist motorised pedal bikes. There was a television set up in front of the resident and bike hosting a library of over 1800 videos. Residents were able to cycle around their favourite places across the globe, some choosing their home town Harrogate!

On Saturday 28th September we hosted a medal ceremony where the Minister for Sport Nigel Adams, Local MP Andrew Jones and representatives from Motitech, British Cycling and Yorkshire 2019 came along. It was a very special day had by all. It was incredible to watch our residents take part, enjoy themselves and most importantly reminisce about places and memories that was brought to life after cycling in their favourite place.
