Our Services

At Vida Healthcare, we offer residential and nursing care, as well as day care and respite services. We are registered with the CQC as a specialist dementia care home, which means all of our residents and service users have a formal dementia diagnosis. We can support people living with a range of conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies. We are also one of the few homes in the region to offer care for early onset or younger persons with dementia, and people living with more advanced dementia.

There are many types of dementia and people's symptoms may change over time. Both of our homes are divided into smaller houses, designed to cater for a range of care needs.

Our History

Vida Healthcare was established to transform the care available to people living with dementia. We set about to challenge perceptions and practices in dementia care, with a focus on championing the use of bespoke environments and alternative therapies to improve wellbeing and quality of life. More than three years of research went into the planning of our first home - Vida Hall in Starbeck. Working with leading consultants, we developed an innovative, state-of-the-art home along with pioneering dementia care plans and staff training programmes to set new standards of care.

In 2015, Vida Hall was awarded a rating of ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission – the highest rating ever given to a specialist dementia facility at the time. We were also the first care home in the northern region to have achieved this level under the new, more rigorous CQC inspection criteria. Vida Healthcare’s second care home, Vida Grange, opened in December 2016. Following the same design principals and philosophy of care, Vida Grange offers the same high quality care, state-of-the-facilities and home comforts as Vida Hall.

“The thing that really defines Vida Grange and Vida Hall is the passion for care exhibited by the people that work here. The staff are driven by values and really understand that it’s about giving people the best life possible. The residents and their families are at the centre of everything that’s done here – it’s quite remarkable and it’s fantastic. It’s something you can all be proud of.”
Professor Martin Green OBE
Chief Executive, Care England

“At the CQC we have been criticised that we have not rated enough homes as outstanding. From visiting Vida Hall, I can definitely say that there is a clear difference between your service and others I have visited. A short visit cannot really do you justice but perhaps the most telling thing was the atmosphere; calm, with enough staff not to be hurried and such a clear focus on the people living at Vida Hall and their families. It was a real privilege to spend time with you.”
Andrea Sutcliffe
Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, Care Quality Commission

“Thanks to the vision and leadership of the senior staff, the care that we received was exemplary. What is clear is that everyone is part of the Vida team – the reception staff, laundry and kitchen staff, housekeepers and handyman, activity people, carers and nurses – and all are so cheerful, kind and respectful to the residents. What you have achieved is remarkable. Everyone deserves the kind of care that I wanted for my Mum.”

“Utterly amazing, unbelievable. A “Can do, will do” attitude. The difference in my mother since moving to Vida is incomparable. My mum is walking again, is properly cared for and looks gorgeous the whole time. She’s basically back to being mum. I love the characters, it’s a really lively, fun place. You should be very proud of what you’ve got here. .”

Welcoming new guests through our Controlled Admissions Suite

Vida Healthcare has launched a Controlled Admissions Suite to enable the protection of new residents and the wider community at Vida Healthcare, specialist dementia care provider in Harrogate.

Launched at Vida Grange in July 2020, the Admissions Suite can hold up to 10 residents at any one time and has a permanent team of six staff members offering round-the-clock care.

The initiative has been created in response to the COVID-19 crisis and will be kept in place until it’s deemed safe enough to return to normal admissions processes.

Vida Healthcare developed the Suite to enable new residents to be admitted to its homes without jeopardizing the health of current residents and staff. New residents are tested for COVID-19 prior to arriving, and are then cared for in the Suite before being transferred to their dedicated house once the quarantine period has been completed.

Bernadette Mossman, Healthcare Director at Vida Healthcare, commented: “It was key for us to develop an initiative which enabled us to pick back up with our admissions process, and offer high quality care to more vulnerable people. “We’re fortunate, due to the design of our building, that we’ve been able to launch our Controlled Admissions Suite to welcome new guests and reassure their families. This allows us to closely manage new admissions to ensure their safety, and offer support to families who are looking for specialist dementia care.”

To enable families to remain connected during a new residents’ time in the Controlled Admissions Suite, Vida Healthcare has invested in a range of technology initiatives including the development of a brand new app.
